Chief Custom Homes Assists with House for Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity
(November 19, 2009; AURORA, NE) — Chief Custom Homes, the housing division of Chief Industries, Inc., in Aurora, Nebraska, put the company‟s skills and expertise to work to create their first ever Habitat for Humanity prefabricated home.
“This was an incredible opportunity for us to give back to the local community. When the Grand Island Habitat for Humanity‟s Executive Director, Dana Jelinek, approached us to discuss the challenge of trying to find a professional site supervisor, we quickly realized this could be a way to put our talents to work. It has been an amazing experience,” said Chief Custom Homes General Manager, Curt Wilkerson.
Chief Custom Homes provided a house with finished drywall, framing and the majority of the necessary plumbing and wiring to assist the Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity move forward on the project and maintain a tight budget and deadline.
“Chief Custom Homes is a great, high quality company to work with. They saved us six or seven weeks of construction time, which when you look at the weather these coming months typically bring, it is nice to have the home „weather tight‟ so our volunteers can work inside and be protected from the cold weather outside,” stated Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity‟s Aurora site supervisor, Randy Gunn.
The prefabricated home was placed on its foundation Wednesday, November 4, at its Aurora build site. Since that time, great progress has been made in getting the home move-in ready for its residents, John and Jessica Taylor of Aurora.
“There is an immense amount of support and devotion Chief Custom Homes receives from the Aurora community. We view the opportunity to „give back‟ as something of high importance, so we strive to do just that,” Wilkerson said.
Habitat for Humanity volunteers and the home‟s future owners continue to offer their services every Saturday as they work to finish the Aurora home, which is to be completed and ready for the Taylor family to move in sometime after the first of the year.
“As we approach the holiday season, it is a wonderful feeling to be a part of something so worthy, where someone can achieve their goal of being a homeowner,” Wilkerson said.
