Construction Details
While making a home aesthetically pleasing, Chief® Custom Homes prides itself with making sure the home is built to last. To accomplish this, we use strict fastening schedules, sound construction techniques and top-quality materials.
Endwall/Sidewall Fastening
Chief® Custom Homes’ unitized construction process protects against wind shear with a multiple fastening process when securing endwalls to sidewalls. Before fastening, clamps are used to bring the walls together; then nails are used to draw the two walls together; second screws pull the walls together tighter and secure them. Further strength is given by strapping the walls together with metal straps.
Interior Wall Fastening
Chief® Custom Homes’ unitized construction process requires all interior walls to be fastened through the top and bottom plate with #10 2 1/2" screws every 16 inches. While many of the interior walls are not 100% load bearing, all of the walls have a responsibility in the strength of your home. By fastening all interior walls in this way, the added precaution protects against movement and should give you peace of mind.
Heat Duct Design
Chief® Custom Homes uses a computer designed closed-loop heating system for even distribution of heat. Our system uses perimeter floor vents (where available), spreading warmth evenly.
Tongue & Groove Decking
Chief® Custom Homes installs 3/4" tongue & groove floor sheathing perpendicular to the floor joists. Interlocking the sheathing and staggering the seams eliminates continuous seams across the entire width of the home. Sturdy floors are obtained by gluing the tongue and groove and gluing and stapling the sheathing to the floor joists.
Quality Wall Construction
Making sure the walls are appealing to the eye and taking precautions to reduce the chance for cracks and blemishes are part of the goal to get "quality wall construction."
Reinforced Inside Corners
Paper-faced reinforced inside corners are used on all drywall corners, which makes a stronger and straighter corner. The strength helps reduce the chance for cracks and gives the home a beautiful finished appearance.
Drywall Screws
"Nail pops" can occur due to panel movement or lumber shrinkage and require on site repair. Attaching sheetrock panels with drywall screws rather than nails provides excellent insurance against "nail pops."
Fiber Tape & Two Coats of Joint Compound
High strength joint tape is used on all walls. Two coats of joint compound are applied, rather than one coat or two light-weight coats. First, high early strength to give exceptional bond and rapid strength development. Second, lightweight for easy sanding.
1/8" Energy Brace Interior Board
1/8" energy brace interior board is placed between studs and sheetrock panels in the marriage wall and 7/16" on the exterior wall. This precaution aids to decrease the panel movement in these walls and ensures a solid backing.
